Round 16 NRL Game’s Of The Round Preview

June 24th, 2011

In a round full of exciting matchup’s we’ve selected two games as the highlights of round 16 of the 2011 NRL Premiership.

While it’s a tough choice given the importance of so many clashes this weekend we think that in terms of entertainment value and the competition outlook these two have the highest stakes.

First of all is when the Melbourne Storm travel across the ditch to face the New Zealand Warriors on home soil.

It’s never an easy task and the kiwi’s will be desperate to bounce back after a period where they’ve looked the better team only to throw away the game late.

They’re one of the only teams with a good record against Melbourne and the love to stick it to the best teams in the comp, especially in front of their home fans.

The second big contest is a no brainer when second and third battle it out on the competition ladder.

Many believe it will either be the Dragons or the Sea Eagles taking out this year’s minor premiership and this Monday night clash will go a long way to determining the better of the two.

2011 Round 16 Games Of The Round Preview

New Zealand Warriors ($2.00 at Luxbet)              v              Melbourne Storm ($1.83 at Luxbet)

As mentioned the Warriors are the real bogey team for the Storm and even at their peak this was a trip they dreaded to make.

The biggest game they showed this was of course in the 2008 finals series where the Warriors took care of the Strom in week one of the finals when it was 1st versus 8th.

This week the Storm are carrying the momentum and on paper they should probably come away with the win.

It’s not that simply though and were it not for two shocking 20 minute periods at the end of their games the Warriors would also be coming into this game with winning form.

This is the obvious area they need to clear up because if they don’t the Storm could cut them to pieces.

For the Melbourne side they’ve been plugging along quietly without ever really  making a huge statement.

That’s ok though and as long as they continue to win you know Bellamy will have them firing come September.

This is a very tough matchup but I think you’ve got to take consistency over potential so the Storm to beat the Warriors in the final 10 minutes of the game.

St George Dragons ($1.69 at Luxbet)     V             Manly Sea Eagles ($2.20 at Luxbet)

From the very begging you can say the $2.20 being offered about Manly is ridiculous, this is a 50/50 game for sure and anything over $2.00 is incredible.

St George come into this matchup off a long break and one which they certainly needed after a hard fought arm wrestle loss to the Broncos last week.

It’s a team full of Origin stars and when they click there’s none better in the league.

Manly come in after getting away with one at the death against Parramatta, they probably didn’t deserve the win but in the end they just did enough.

For the crowds sake hopefully both sides are at their best because this year they’ve been far and away the dominant sides.

This battle will be won or lost up front because the halves can only work off a roll on.

These outfits are known more for their defence than their attack which only usually open up after they’ve asserted themselves.

With that been said it’s clear that if you can win the ruck you’ll limit their attack and limit their points.

I think Manly are the go here especially at the odds.

They got a wakeup call last week but are coming off a high, whereas the Dragons need a lift after going down.

As I said it’s a 50/50 call so Manly are the pick at the odds, they’re the Monday night specialists.
