The NRL Finals are here! Round 26 wrapped up and the Top 8 were officially decided. Now it’s time for the top teams of the standard season to pair off and enter into the most exciting part of the NRL season. Week 1 of the finals will see four matches that every NRL fan (casual or die-hard) must see.
The Gold Coast Titans will kick things off by hosting the New Zealand Warriors. Both of these teams had a fantastic finish to the standard season. The Titans took six wins in their last seven and capped it off with a win over the then number two ranked Tigers. The Warriors had five wins in their last six and finished their standard season off with a win over the Eels.
Both are fully capable of taking the win in this game, though circumstances look to be slightly favouring the Titans. Not only do they have the home ground advantage, but it was just seven weeks ago that they handed the Warriors a loss in Auckland. The Titans will be returning Preston Campbell and Luke Bailey while the Warriors will see the return of Michael Luck.
St George will be finishing off the first week of NRL Finals action with a home match against the Manly Sea Eagles. The Minor Premiership Dragons are going into this one as huge favourites. Their fantastic season aside, they’re going up against a team that just managed to scrape into the Top 8 – a team that is coming into this all important game off of a crushing loss to the Bulldogs. Not only that, but the Sea Eagles will be down key players Steve Matai and Jason King, who are suspended for the rest of the season. Plus, Glenn Stewart and Shane Rodney are also missing the game. Playing against this year’s Dragons with a full squad is hard enough. Manly is going to have a very tough time with their thoroughly thinned out squad.
