NRL Round 25 Results

August 31st, 2010

What a week for the NRL. As the regular season starts to wrap up, plenty of teams are hanging on by a thread in hopes they’ll make it through to the finals. This is especially true for Queensland’s only hope, the Brisbane Broncos. The last few weeks have been unkind to struggling team, and after a crushing 4-36 loss to the New Zealand Warriors, the Broncos are slowly watching their finals hopes slip away. As they’ve now dropped to the number ten rung on the NRL ladder, these guys are going to need a win and a round 26 miracle in order to make it through.

The St George-Illawarra Dragons finished their season at the top of the ladder, two points ahead of the Wests Tigers. Punters who backed the Dragons at for the Minor Premiership title are very happy indeed as the team has cemented their top position with their most recent win against the Newcastle Knights. While the Dragons may be flying high after their victory, it wasn’t without its trials. They kicked things off by going up 22-0, but it seemed overconfidence was their downfall. A lull in intensity in the second half allowed three tries in just seven minutes. Suddenly the Knights were back in the game. Despite the largely forgettable second half from the Dragons, Jamie Soward was able to score a last minute try to secure the win and the Minor Premiership for St George.

There might be one more round left to play, but it’s not likely to save Melbourne’s lacklustre season. Though, all is not lost for punters who put their money on the Storm at for the Wooden Spoon. It looks like the team’s loss to the Wests Tigers has all but sewn up their position on the bottom rung of the NRL ladder.
